Antarean IT Services started as a small hobby project to learn about Linux and networking.
As the usage of different services has increased over time, the requirement of ensuring a near-100% uptime and reliability has become paramount.
Because of this, the original server (simple dial-up/firewall with small fileshare) has been replaced several times to an infrastructure which rivals what most SMBs have:
- A complex network using VLANs to keep services secured
- Multiple sites connected via permanent VPN links
- A virtualised server infrastructure providing:
- Fully self managed email (IMAP, server-side filtering, redundant SMTP)
- Full groupware functionality (using eGroupware) to enable full synchronisation of Calendar, Todo-lists, Addressbook,... across all devices.
- Document management (using eGroupware)
- NAS/SAN storage providing access to data via NFS and CIFS. (This used to also include iSCSI, but this has been removed)
- A Lab system running XenServer to allow quick and simple setup of environments to test new software and configurations. This is also used to reproduce issues at customers with test/sample data to avoid issues with data protection/privacy when dealing with third party support from vendors.
- Fully functioning phone system between different sites.
- Ensuring international calls are routed out via PSTN lines providing cheapest calls.
- Providing free calls between different locations
- Providing phone numbers in different countries which can be answered from any location.
